TigerYogiji replies: What does that have to do with anything? The Wizard of Oz will be 70 years old next year, but, you don’t see anyone trying to remake that! A classic is a classic! I have never seen a remake that was as good as the original…
I have always wanted to redo Mame as an all gay show. With Mame and Vera as Drag performers.
Actually they did redo the Wizard of Oz on the SciFi Channel. It was called Tin Man
Then of course there’s the Broadway show Wicked.
I think the trick is not to try and do it exactly the the original movie but to put a different spin on it to make it something new.
TigerYogiji replies: Ah. but those weren’t remakes per se. I just feel that you shouldn’t mess with a classic. Look at Miracle on 34th Street for example. It was remade twice and both stunk! Neither could hold a candle to the original! Why mess with perfection?!!!
Ok. Did you just compare The Rocky Horror Picture Show with Miracle on 34th Street?! You did!! Now I’ve seen and heard it all…
I’m just not sure this is something they should tamper with, but Richard O’Brien’s RiffRaff, right, so hopefully we can trust him not to f*ck with it too much. Maybe they’ll make it even gayer than it was…wait, is that possible?
I agree…they should just keep showing the original, maybe just remaster it or something. You shouldn’t mess with success.
Richard O’Brien wants nothing to do with it so if he still has the rights, then it may not even go ahead. You can’t replace Riff Raff or Frankenfurter from the originals as those parts will always belong to O’Brien and Curry.
But how many have tried to dress up like and were silly enough to have photographic evidence? I bet Girlpants is now quaking in his pants… 🙂
