Prayers for Tiamat

Yes, you are reading that posting title correctly.

Here’s the quick version:

As I mentioned here previously, a few weeks ago Tiamat had what was supposed to be routine surgery to have a cataract removed from her right eye.

Well, wouldn’t you know, there was a complication to the surgery and (I think I’m getting this right) and as a result of the complication her lens detached from her retina(?). So she has been basically blind in that eye since then.

The doctors have been waiting for the eye to heal so that they can re-attach the lens. This procedure is supposed to happen tomorrow.

However, after a recent consultation with the doctor, they discovered that even after the surgery, she may still not regain her sight in that eye.

Which has Tiamat terrified and Husbandji beside himself with worry and fear.

And as much as I don’t like the woman, I don’t want to see this happen to her.

So, I ask you all to please send your positive thoughts and prayer to Tiamat for tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted when I know more.

We now return you to your regular programming…

The lens and retina aren’t attached, but what it sounds like is that the retina detached from the back of the eye, which is fairly serious and does cause loss of vision. And yes, there is some chance she could not regain vision once the retina is reattached, because the detachment damages the retina’s ability to detect light/shape/color. In my patient population, at least, hypertension is a major factor in most cases of retinal detachment.

Will keep fingers crossed for her.

    Indigo Incarnates

My aunt is a nurse that works in the Wilmer Eye Clinic in Baltimore (part of Johns Hopkins Hospital). She’s assisted in a lot of retinal surgeries that have been successful. All is not lost. I hope all goes well for your mother-in-law.

    Bad news indeed.
One can only hope the retina can be repaired and then it is time.
May Tiamet be back in the saddle doing her usual -ASAP.

Oh dear. I hope all goes well. It’s scary to think of losing one’s sight. My thoughts are with her.

We will keep Tiamat in our best thoughts. Beyond the simple humanity of not wanting any living thing to suffer and for all to be well, Tiamat’s healing and restored sightis best for you and Husbandji as well as for her.
